An internship is an excellent opportunity for students to apply the knowledge and skills obtained during their college career. For younger students, a successful internship is a significant contribution to a resume. Many employers are interested in the experience students have obtained during their internships. Even one college semester's worth of experience makes a graduate more attractive to a prospective employer.
You'll work with real clients. You'll see more, and you'll understand first-hand what a career in the accounting industry is like as you get a feel for what you would do if you worked full-time with our organization.
Description of Internship Duties:
- Assist with data entry, filing and other general office activities as necessary.
- Spearhead special projects.
- Extensive use of Microsoft Office and Quickbooks.
- Collection, analysis, and preparation of data necessary to file tax returns, estimated payments and annual reports.
- Prepare corporate, partnership and individual tax returns, as well as, various tax planning strategies at a corporate and individual level.
- Complete bank statement reconciliation and month-end financial reports.
- Research technical issues using regulatory and source materials utilizing electronic databases.
- Participate in technical discussions and propose solutions relating to client tax matters.
- Apply concepts of risk assessment.
- Negotiate with tax authorities over tax payment issues.
- Research and respond to notices from state tax authorities.
- Assist with preparation of quarterly and/or annual tax provisions.
- Provide support for federal and state income tax audits.
Qualifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to work with new software (accounting and non-accounting packages).
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Strong desire to learn.
- Ability to work as an effective member of a team.
- Motivated to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks at once.
- Ability to initiate and complete projects from start to finish.
